LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Longview police arrested a 21-year-old man early this morning for attempting to strangle his girlfriend during a dispute over a two-year-old child.

Officers responded to a house in the 1500 block of Young Street shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday on an assault call. According to an arrest report, the victim said the man she has been dating and who may be her child's father came to her mother's house on Young Street and wanted to take the child to an unknown location. When the victim refused, the man grabbed her by the throat "to the point she was unable to breath," leaving marks on the right side of her neck, the report stated.

The suspect, later identified as Ethan Ellis Williams, of Longview, took the child and left the location. Officers arrested Williams near his home in the 400 block of Tammy Lynn Drive at 2:40 a.m., and the child was returned to the victim.

Williams is in the Gregg County Jail on $10,000 bond, charged with assault/family violence by strangulation. He also had warrants for an open container, no motor vehicle insurance and no driver's license, records showed.
