BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (KYTX) - A Longview man was among three people arrested this past weekend in an Illinois incident in which police were forced to fatally shoot a dog and a teen runaway was taken into protective custody.
Bolingbrook, Ill., police were called to a home on Northridge Avenue to break up a fight on Sunday. According to a press release, officers learned that three men - one with a gun - fled the scene in a brown truck after battering a victim. Police found the vehicle pulling into a driveway on Malibu Drive.
Two men were detained, but one man ran into a residence and closed the door. Someone inside the house released a pit bull into the backyard after police surrounded the home, according to police. The dog "aggressed on and attacked the officers," who fired upon the dog, fatally wounding it, the release stated.
Arrested were Jose Antonio Vega, 21, of Longview, for resisting arrest; Gilberto Zavala, 18, of Bolingbrook, for resisting arrest; and Thomas Lopez, 24, of Plainfield, Ill. Police said a 16-year-old female runaway was being harbored in the home and was taken into protective custody before being reunited with her father.
