TYLER (KYTX) - If you have unresolved misdemeanor warrants, the city of Tyler is giving you a second chance to pay your fines before you get arrested.
Gloria Godoy with Tyler Municipal Court has been busy making phone calls to offer people a second chance at clearing their warrants for class C misdemeanors, primarily traffic violations. If people have failed to pay their fines, they get one more shot.
"If he could get in as soon as possible, it looks like he defaulted on his payment plan, so we're just calling to see if he can come in and get it taken care of." says Gloria.
Normally, you have to pay $400 to get rid of a warrant, but Court Administrator Cam McCabe says the Second Chance Program allows you a second opportunity to pay $150 down and set up another payment plan.
"We see in court, many people have lost their jobs and they can't make their payments. They need to come down here immediately when they can, but a lot of people get scared and they don't." says McCabe.
There is a catch to the Second Chance Warrant Program. If you take advantage of it and still don't pay your fines, you will be moved up to priority arrest.
But McCabe has received hundreds of calls from people, all giving the city a chance to recoup fine dollars, and people a chance to stay out of jail.
The Second Chance Warrant Program runs through August 21.
