(CNN) - The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, or GLAAD, is backing a "National Same-Sex Kiss Day" planned for Chick-Fil-A restaurants nationwide today. The event comes two days after supporters responded to backlash against the company's support of traditional marriage.
"Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day" -- organized by former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee -- drew long lines of supporters of the company and free speech. Organizers of today's event are no doubt hoping for a similar turnout. They're asking same-sex couples to go to Chick-Fil-A restaurants and kiss in protest, and then post a video or photos on social media.
Meanwhile, the Chick-Fil-A controversy is getting some mentions by politicians and the LGBT rights group "Wyoming Equality".
"The young man or woman who at this very moment is drawing up a business plan on the back of a scrap piece of paper on a Chick-fil-A somewhere nearby," says Senator Marco Rubio.
Jeran Artery, Wyoming Equality Chairman, says "It would really be nice if Chick-fil-A would just get in the business of just making great chicken and stay out of the business of equality."
As of early this morning, about 13-thousand people said they would participate on the event's Facebook page. The controversy started last month, when Chick-Fil-A President and COO Dan Cathy told a religious news service they support the biblical definition of the family unit.
