Police believe Oklahoma wildfires may be the work of an arsonist

Posted: Updated:

(KYTX) - Police believe a fast-moving wildfire that has destroyed over 60 homes in Oklahoma was deliberately set.

The fire has charred over four square miles, destroying dozens of houses and buildings.

The Oklahoma county sheriff says on Friday, someone in a black pickup truck was seen tossing newspapers that had been set on fire out of their window.

The area, bone dry from the recent drought, only makes matters worse. Firefighters say the conditions are treacherous.

"It gets tight out there when the wind comes up and a big flame comes across them cedar trees it look like dynamite going off, it gets scary out there, " says Newt Stephens, Creek County Commissioner.

It will take days for firefighters to put all of the blazes out. So far there are no suspects, but police will continue investigating the possibility of an arsonist.
