TYLER (KYTX) - Tyler police Sgt. D. Mike Saxion this morning announced a drug bust Saturday evening that turned up 5.4 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.

The stop occurred at about 7 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Mineola Highway. The driver, Fernando Mercado Zertuche, was arrested for traffic offense. The K-9, Paco, alerted police that an illegal substance was possibly inside Zertuche's vehicle.

"After further investigation officers located 5.4 pounds of  methamphetamine in a hidden compartment inside the vehicle," Saxion said in a media release. "The methamphetamine had a street value of over $100,000."

Zertuche was transported to the Smith County Jail on a first-degree charge of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
