UPDATE: KYTX CBS 19 Reporter Abby Broyles was there this afternoon when Bradford Coy Webb entered his guilty plea in Gregg County's 124th District Court.
Webb, 34, of Gladewater, waived his right to a trial in may, after a grand jury indicted him for felony theft.
Webb admits to stealing money from the Gladewater Youth Baseball Association last year - using the league's credit card for his own personal use.
About $6,000 in credit card charges left the league with nothing last fall.
In court Monday, Justin Smith took the witness stand for the prosecution. He's the president now of the Gladewater/Union Grove Baseball Association.
That's a joint-league formed this year meant to help more than 250 kids play baseball this season after the money was gone - since the other group couldn't function without money.
"It was very hard to hear when it all went down, very hard to understand and frustrating," Smith said.
Facing a state jail felony, Webb took the stand Monday, telling the court he was sorry and was in a financial bind at time. He has since paid restitution.
"This should've never happened," Webb said. "I used poor judgment. I'm very sorry about it."
Webb asked the court to keep this felony off his record considering his level of cooperation. But late Monday afternoon, 124th District Judge Alfonso Charles denied that request.
GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - The former president of Gladewater Youth Baseball Association is scheduled to make an open plea this afternoon on a felony charge of stealing at least $1,500 from the recreation group.
Bradford Coy Webb, 34, of Gladewater, was indicted in Gregg County in March for misapplying as much as $20,000 belonging to the baseball association on at least six occasions between Feb. 10, 2011, and May 26, 2011. The alleged theft nearly resulted in no baseball season this year, but Gladewater Youth Baseball Association joined with the Union Grove Youth Sports Association to continue youth baseball recreation.
Webb is scheduled to make an open plea at 2:45 this afternoon in Gregg County's 124th District Court. He is defended by Longview attorney Scrappy Holmes.
A subrogee for Gladewater Youth Baseball Association has filed a civil suit against Webb in Gregg County Court-at-Law No. 2, online records show. A subrogee is a person or entity, usually an insurance company, that assumes the legal right to attempt to collect a claim for damages to its insured, which the subrogee paid.
