Rusk County Sheriff's Department:
RUSK COUNTY (KYTX) - During the evening hours Thursday, August 2, and early morning hours Friday, Aug 3, Rusk County Sheriff's Office K9 Deputy, Jason Smith and Certified Narcotic Dog, Caro discovered cocaine during two separate traffic stops on Hwy 59 North.
The first traffic stop, approximately 9:15 p.m., Deputy Smith indicated numerous things indicative of criminal activity. When Caro alerted on the vehicle, Deputy Smith conducted a probably cause search. During the search approximately 4 ounces of cocaine was discovered in the console area of the vehicle. The driver, Arjohnnon Raymond Thomas, 38, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was arrested for possession of controlled substance. Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5, Joe Sorrells charged Thomas with Possession of Controlled Substance, a second degree felony, with bond set at $40,000.
At 2:45 a.m., approximately 6 hours later, during a traffic stop Deputy Smith noticed several things indicative of criminal activity and ask the driver for consent to search the vehicle. The driver consented to the search of the vehicle. All occupants were asked to exit the vehicle. While conducting a pat down of passenger, Michael Roy Taylor, 24, of Shreveport, Louisiana, approximately 8 ounces of cocaine was located in his waistband. Taylor was arrested for possession of controlled substance. During the search of the vehicle no contraband was found. Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5, Joe Sorrells charged Taylor with Possession of Controlled Substance, a first degree felony, and bond set at $40,000.
Suspects Thomas and Taylor are not believed to have any connections to one another.
