UPDATE: Bond set for suspect in multi-county car chase

Posted: Updated:
UPDATE: LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Bond was set at $153,000 for an East Texan accused of leading authorities on a three-county chase ending in Longview on Tuesday.

Gregg County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace B.H. Jameson said the bonds - $25,000 each on three aggravated assault and a public servant charges, two evading arrest charges and a bond forfeiture in a past burglary charge all from Camp County, plus $3,000 on failure to appear and 911 abuse charges in Morris County - were already set in Anderson's warrants, Jameson said.

"That is their recommended bonds," Jameson told Anderson during arraignment this morning, "which sounds pretty good to me, because I would've probably set them higher."

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - An East Texan fleeing outstanding warrants from two counties led authorities on a multi-county car chase that ended in North Longview this afternoon.

The chase began when two Camp County sheriff's deputies noticed the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jonathan Lee Anderson, in the East Texas Medical Center parking lot in Pittsburg. Authorities said Anderson rammed his car into the deputies' vehicles to evade arrest and fled south on U.S. 271 through Upshur County and into Gregg County.

Officers tried to use stop spikes but decided against it since it was a danger to other vehicles. Anderson later crashed in front of Brookshire's grocery store on Gilmer Road at Hawkins Parkway before he ran into the woods.

Bystanders directed officers to his location and the suspect was apprehended.

In past arrests, Anderson has listed his residence as both Pittsburg and Easton. He had bonded out of the Camp County Jail after his July 24 arrest for burglary of a habitation.

He had outstanding warrants from Camp and Morris counties. Now, he is in the Gregg County Jail, charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

KYTX CBS 19 reporter Richard Trellis is on the scene and will have more information tonight on KYTX CBS 19 News at 5 p.m.
