EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Today is a special day for 13-year-old Romelo.
He's getting the opportunity to play with the Tyler Junior College men's basketball team.
"It's going to be a good game cause I take my basketball very seriously," Romelo said.
And without hesitation, he grabs a ball and joins his new friends on the court.
Romelo can be a little shy and quiet at first but warms up quickly.
Romelo has been in foster care a long time, which can be discouraging for any child.
"Sometimes I can be very sad and somebody will come up to me and ask me what is wrong. Hey I'm just going through a rough time right now. So I'm alright now so then I go on and be happy."
And today these players are making him feel special.
A family for Romelo will need to be understanding and patient.
This teenager needs guidance, structure and stability as he works on improving his behavior.
But this day was about inspiration and encouragement for a young man waiting to see what his future holds.
