LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Bond was set at $5,000 today for a 21-year-old Irving man accused of transporting 3.5 pounds of marijuana on Interstate 20 in Gregg County on Tuesday.

At about 1 a.m. Tuesday, a DPS trooper stopped a light green Pontiac driven by Akel Smith for speeding and following to close on the roadway. Smith's hand was shaking when he handed the officer his Louisiana driver's license. The trooper got consent to search the Pontiac and found marijuana residue and rolling papers in the vehicle, a glass jar with marijuana in the back seat and more than three pounds of marijuana in a black bag in the car's truck, according to an arrest affidavit.

Smith remains in the Gregg County Jail on $5,000 bond.
