Longview man jailed on assault charge, immigration detainer

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A 27-year-old Longview man was jailed early this morning for assaulting his girlfriend and interfering with an emergency call.

According to Longview police, officers met with a woman at the Budget Inn in the 2000 block of East Marshall Avenue shortly before midnight Monday. The woman said her boyfriend and father of her unborn child assaulted her and left the location in a black Lexus. She said that the man, Shahzad Imtiaz, began pushing her and, when she tried to call 911, he took the phone from her, grabbed an unplugged alarm clock and started hitting her on top of her head.

"She stated that Imtiaz then pinned her up against a sink and hit her across the left side of her face with the clock," police said. "The victim also had a small cut on the inside of her top lip with dry blood around her mouth."

Imtiaz, who lists Pakistan as his birthplace, was located by officers at about 12:25 this morning and arrested. He remains in the Gregg County Jail on $2,000 bond. An emergency protective order has been issued in the case, and he is also being held on a federal immigration detainer.
