TYLER (KYTX)- Tyler ISD missed the federal government's Adequate Yearly Progress standards for the third year in a row.
The preliminary results, just released by the Texas Education Agency. "These are measures set by the federal government through the No Child Left Behind Act that every district in Texas is held accountable for," Laura Jackson, TISD Communication Director, said.
She says the findings show strides of improvement for the district.
"The district did exceed the majority of those standards that came out," Jackson said.
That's true. Tyler ISD did meet 3 out of 5 benchmarks for AYP, but didn't in math and English. RUE. "In math, we had an 80 percent pass rate, and the federal standard is 83 percent," Jackson said.
The categories are graduation rates, participation in English and language arts, participation in math, math performance, and reading/language arts performance.
"These federal standards that we're held to, are going to continue to rise and we're going to continue to rise to meet those challenges," Jackson said.
The 4 campuses within TISD that did meet all criteria: Moore MST Magnet School, Birdwell Elementary, Owens Elementary, and Wayne D. Boshears Center.
Only 28 percent of Texas' more than 1,200 school districts met the federal AYP standards this year. That's down from 50 percent last year.
