GILMER (KYTX) - A Mount Pleasant police sergeant has resigned his post following his arrest Tuesday in Upshur County for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Upshur County sheriff's deputies took 40-year-old Eric Jason Campbell into custody shortly after 6 p.m. on the charge. He remains in the Upshur County Jail on $250,000 bond.

This is not Campbell's first foray on opposite sides of the law. In July 2008, he was arrested in Upshur County for injury to a child or elderly person, online records show. He was never indicted or prosecuted for the charge, according to records.

Union Hill Independent School District, Upshur County and the local emergency services district also have a pending delinquent tax suit against Campbell.
