It's Time Texas: Sugary sodas pack pounds, acid

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - Gay Shilling was addicted to soft drinks all of her adult life, until two years ago.

Gay, who cooks for a living at "Let's Cook" in Tyler, says she didn't change any other part of her diet or start exercise. She just replaced sodas with water.

Now, she's more than 40 pounds lighter.

Gina Baxter, an exercise specialist at ETMC's Olympic Center says it is possible to lose weight just by cutting out sugary drinks.

Beyond the sugar in sodas, health experts say the phosphoric acid isn't good for you.

Gina says that can lead to health issues like osteoporosis, which can lead to broken bones. All things Gay hopes her break up with sodas will keep away.
