UPDATE (KCEN) -- The motion for a change of venue for the Hasan case has been denied by the judge.
The judge also denied the defense's request for a 50 day delay, which would have pushed the start of the trial to October 9.
The defense's expert witness they wanted to call in the case was also denied by Judge Gross.
Judge Gross has still not ruled on whether the prosecution's terrorist expert witness will be allowed or not. This expert, Evan Kohlmann, is the one that was interviewed via phone today.
Today the defense found out that they will be allowed open statements before the sentencing phase of the trial.
Another pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for August 14 at 10 a.m.

UPDATE (KCEN) -- The judge presiding over the Hasan pre-trial hearings is considering a change of venue for the trial. He is expected to rule on it soon.
Hasan was once again found in contempt of court for not shaving his beard and was fined $1,000. He has been watching court proceedings via video.

(KCEN) -- Another pre-trial hearing was held for the accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan today.
The defense has been interviewing the terror expert and is trying to make the case that he does not need to be part of the case.
The terror expert was not present in court but was being interviewed via phone.
