Abdo Receives Two Consecutive Life Sentences

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- The AWOL soldier Naser Abdo, who planned to blow up a Killeen restaurant frequented by soldiers, was sentenced to two life sentences and an additional sixty years, all to be served consecutively.

He was fined a total of $3,000 in addition to his prison sentences.

Abdo appeared in court today with his mouth wrapped in a scarf and his hair and face covered with a net-like material.

He spoke for about 30 minutes about how he tried to get conscientious objector status to leave the service on the basis of his religion, but said his superiors used bogus child pornography charges to prevent him from obtaining that.

Abdo said that his inability to leave the Army drove him to jihad to seek out his own justice and that he would continue in his jihad ways.

A prosecuting attorney mentioned Abdo's continuing violence, including him spitting blood at people, and indicated that he was not HIV positive, which Abdo had claimed to be.
