LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A 28-year-old Longview man remains jailed today on $10,000 bond and a immigration detainer, after officers responding to a wreck say he was driving drunk.

Police responded to the collision on Eden Drive at Fourth Street during a severe thunderstorm shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday. During investigation, they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the breath of Jose Daniel Rangel-Jara, who was driving a dark SUV involved in the crash. Rangel-Jara failed on 14 of a possible 18 clues in a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.

Officers obtained a court-ordered blood specimen from Rangel-Jara before transporting him to the Gregg County Jail, according to court records. When officers asked for his identification, Rangel-Jara handed them a Mexico ID.

Rangel-Jara has a previous drunk driving conviction from 2009.
