Murdered couple's family is "relieved" about suspect's arrest

Posted: Updated:

VAN ZANDT COUNTY (KYTX) - Peter and LaTricia Shicks' family is breathing a sigh of relief about Donny Greenhow's capture. He's suspected of shooting and killing the Shicks in their Ben Wheeler home last week.

CBS 19 was the only local station to speak with their family members about the arrest.

They say a weight has been lifted off them. Their family members say now that the murder suspect is behind bars, they are finally getting closure.

Finally some good news, for a grieving family. The Shicks' son in law, Ben Worsham, heard about Greenhow's arrest, at about 10 Friday.

"We had a huge burden off our chest," Worsham says. "There were a lot of high fives, and just a lot of crying and a lot of emotions. We can move on now and start the healing process."

Now, the family can lighten their load and set fear aside.

"Once we knew he was in Tennessee we took a deep breath of relief knowing that he's not next door that he's not looking at us, because he knew us as acquaintances," Worsham says.

Worsham and his wife knew Greenhow in high school.

"When I knew him he was kind of a class clown, and he was a friend of a friend. That's about all I knew of him, but I never thought the murder suspect would be someone I knew. That was a shock."

He says Greenhow used to visit Peter and LaTricia every once in a while, but Worsham isn't sure why his in-laws were a target.

"That's the big question," he says. "Why them? They had nothing to offer, except a truck and why kill someone over a truck?"

Now that Greenhow is in custody, he hopes he and his family will get to hear those answers.

"Today's a better day than it was yesterday," he says. "We're trying to move on with our lives and keep the great memories of our parents alive."

Worsham says he's extremely thankful for his loving and supportive community. He also thanks all the law enforcement agencies here in Texas and in Tennessee, that worked together to find Greenhow and bring them such relief.

Van Zandt County Sheriff Burnett says Greenhow could be extradited back to Texas within the next few days. If he fights extradition it could be longer.
