UT, A&M Rivalry Continues With North Austin Billboard

Posted: Updated:

(KEYE) - The rivalry between Texas A&M and the Longhorns ended on the field last year but a new billboard is heating it back up. A sign proclaiming ‘This is SEC Country' just went up on I-35 in North Austin.

Austin is the home of the longhorns, so you can imagine this one is getting plenty of reaction around town.

This year will be the first since 1915 that the Longhorns and Aggies will not meet on any playing field, including football.

The billboard was strategically placed on I-35, and the nasty recruiting war has begun.

"I think it's childish they ran away. You can look at the record we beat them time and time again," says Longhorn fan James Entels.

Taka Fekora grew up as an Aggie and says she's glad there's still a rivalry even if it's off the playing field. "I feel if you're an aggie fan your against them. So I'm kind of glad they still have a little bit of a rivalry to keep it fun."

Texas A&M is now part of the SEC, a conference college football experts have touted as the best in the country with the last seven national championship winners.

The horns also have a long history of tradition - in the Big 12 conference - and are the last team to win the national championship in the Big 12.
