East Texan eagle scout retires after 36 years of service

TYLER (KYTX) - A retiring Tyler Eagle Scout master is retiring after nearly four decades of service.

"It's pretty overwhelming, it really is," says Jim Reed, retiring after 36 years as scout master.

Jim Reed was moved to tears to see dozens of people show up to his retirement celebration. He's been a scout master for 36 years.

Many of the people who attended the event at Green Acres Sunday afternoon were his former eagle scouts.

"After 36 years, I'm almost 75 years old, I felt it was probably time for some younger people to take over to get a fresher look at things," says Reed. "I've had a great time. I've been to Philmont 15 times, I've had 114 eagle scouts."

As Reed greeted former scouts, he was surrounded by memorabilia from his decades of eagle scout service.
