JACKSONVILLE (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A two-vehicle accident outside of Jacksonville left one dead and three injured this weekend.

The accident occurred about 10:45 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 175, 3.8 miles north of Jacksonville.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Patrick Dark said a 1999 Dodge Caravan was headed southbound on the roadway when a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup veered into the southbound lane and struck it.

The driver "went into the oncoming lane. We don't know if his attention was somewhere else or what was going on," he said.

The driver of the pickup, Raymond Wade Stevenson, 43, of Athens was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Cherokee County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Phillip Grimes. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

A 7-year-old passenger was airlifted to a Dallas hospital in stable condition with contusions, Sgt. Dark said. Another passenger, Cyvilla Hutton, 44, of Athens, was taken to East Texas Medical Center in stable condition with contusions.

The driver of the Caravan, Marco Antonio Davalos, 25, of Jacksonville, was taken to East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville in stable condition with contusions.

Officials have ordered an autopsy for Stevenson and are waiting on the results.
