TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - The documentary "Forks Over Knives" will be shown at Liberty Hall at 7 p.m. Thursday. The film explores the correlation between processed foods, or the Western diet, and illness. With heart disease, cancer and stroke as the country's leading causes of death, billions are being spent each year to control these conditions. Physicians in the film promote a plant-based diet as a solution to the diseases that impact us.
In addition to the documentary, author Melinda Coker will give a brief presentation on this subject before the film. Mrs. Coker is a writer, an educator, a health coach and an advocate of the "Forks Over Knives" lifestyle. She researches the relationship between healthy lifestyle choices and the prevention/reversal of disease.
She has authored the book, "Diet and Cancer: Is There a Connection? Health Secrets to Slowing Cancer if You Have It & Preventing Cancer if You Don't." Her book will be for sale before and after the show in the theater's lobby.
Mrs. Coker has also written a cook book to be released in September, "Coco's Healthy Cooking, A Collection of Delicious Plant-Based Recipes to Renew Your Health and Vitality."
Mrs. Coker lives with her husband, Dr. Rick Coker, in Tyler. For more information, visit her website at
