UPDATE August 15, 2012: HARRISON COUNTY (KYTX) - The water in Marshall was restored about 1 a.m. Wednesday to the 200 customer's that was without.

J. C. Hughes, Public Works Director for the city says residents should still boil their water until Thursday.

Released by the City of Marshall

HARRISON COUNTY (KYTX) - Residents east of Buck Sherrod Road, on East U.S. 80, will experience an extended period of time with no water, due to a large 16-inch water line break.

Marshall city crews are on site and will uncover the broken line beginning at about 1:00 p.m. today.

Repairs will take an extended of time period due to the type of pipe that has ruptured and must be hot-shot delivered from Hanson Pipe out of Grand Prairie. City crews cannot determine the length of pipe needed and affected by the leak until the pipe is uncovered, likely by mid-afternoon today.

While it is impossible at this time to give a firm timeframe for the repair and return of water service, we do not expect water service to residents east of Buck Sherrod Road to be restored before Wednesday morning. Other, as of yet, undiscovered issues could extend the restoration of water service further into Wednesday. Crews from the City of Marshall and Hanson Pipe will work non-stop until water is restored to the affected customers.

Area affected (customers directly tied to the City of Marshall water line):

  • Highway 80 from Buck Sherrod Road, eastward to General Cable in Scottsville, Texas.
  • Duncan Subdivision
  • Texas Department of Transportation on Loop 390
  • General Cable in Scottsville, Texas

As a result of low water pressure and/or no water pressure during the a water line repair, the city is required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to notify affected residents that, to ensure destruction of all possible harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption.

Bring water to a vigorous rolling boil and then boil for an additional two (2) minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may choose to purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.

We will notify you when it is no longer necessary to boil the water.
