TROUP (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - Former Jacksonville ISD Superintendent Stuart Bird will serve as the new interim superintendent in Troup ISD.
Bird officially began work today.
He will serve for about 10 months in that interim role. A district official said he is a good fit and they are happy to have someone in the role before school starts.
Filling this position also brings Bird back into education after retiring in 2008 from serving as Jacksonville ISD superintendent for about five years. He previously served as a longtime administrator for Carthage ISD.
We're told the district will begin advertising for the superintendent position after the first of the year and then interview candidates in the spring.
The district would like to have a superintendent in place next spring or summer.
This past week, trustees had appointed curriculum and instruction director Dr. Katie Preast as a temporary interim superintendent. Outgoing superintendent Dr. Marvin Beaty recommended Dr. Preast.
Dr. Beaty served eight years at Troup before leaving for Bonham ISD in Fannin County.
Troup hopes to have a superintendent in place by March or April.
