TYLER (KYTX) - An East Texas community gathers to remember a toddler killed in a car accident in Wyoming last month. We featured two-year-old Matthew Saine and his family in our "Children are a Gift" series in May. the family invited us to Southern Oaks Baptist Church for his ceremony.
Hundreds released balloons into the sky Wednesday night in honor of two-year-old Matthew Saine- a life taken so unexpectedly.
"I've had a heavy heart for them and what they've been through," says Carley Barton, a family friend. "But being here celebrating his life means so much to me, just because I know he's with the Lord now."
"I'm going to tell you, that little guy brought so much life to our whole household. It was just one antic after another."
Matthew's mother Lisa Saine, still recovering after the July crash, was among many people who shared stories about energetic little Matthew at Wednesday's ceremony.
Matthew's sisters say he not only made them laugh, he was also the sweetest boy they ever knew.
"He would look up at me, and it was just like, oh my gosh, I have never loved another human being so much." says sister Megan Saine.
"I love you, Matthew David Saine, your sister, Madison Saine."
11-year-old Maverick also spent weeks hospitalized after the crash with severe leg injuries, but he is recovering as well.
Matthew's father, David Saine, says their family is thankful for all the support they've received from the community during this trying time.
Pastor Larry Craig says the church is taking donations for the Saine family. If you would like to find out how to help, contact Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Tyler.
