TYLER (KYTX) - "The Wyeths Across Texas" opens at the Tyler Museum of Art on Sept. 7 and will include works by N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth drawn from public and private collections across Texas.
This exciting exhibition will bring to the public and a new generation a rare opportunity to experience works by America's most famous family of 20th century artists. "The Wyeths Across Texas" will be the first major exhibition featuring works by N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth to be presented in Texas in 25 years.
On Sept. 7 through Sept. 9, the Museum will offer special tours through the exhibition led by Victoria Wyeth. Ms. Wyeth is the great-grandchild of N.C., only grandchild of Andrew and niece of realist Jamie Wyeth. As a family member, Ms. Wyeth will offer guests an intimate and unique look into the lives and works of these three artists. She will also present a public lecture on Wyeth art on Sept. 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jean Browne Theatre located on the campus of TJC. An exhibition catalog to commemorate this special exhibition will be published by the TMA and will include an essay by art historian Dr. Henry Adams. Adams, Professor of American Art at Case Western Reserve University, will present the lecture "The Wyeth Family Through Three Generations: The Generations of Genius" on Oct. 28 at 2:00 p.m., sponsored by the Jean and Graham Devoe Williford Charitable Trust.
Dr. Randall Griffin, art history professor at Southern Methodist University, will present the lecture "Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World and the Vulnerable Body" on Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. Other events related to this exhibition include First Friday Art Tours, Family Days, Seniors' Day, children's art activities and many more.
The Wyeths Across Texas was organized by the TMA and will be on view from Sept. 7 through Dec. 9. Sponsorships are still available for this major exhibition.
