VAN ZANDT COUNTY (KYTX) - It took a week to find him and 6 days to get him back to Texas.
But the Van Zandt County Sheriff says the legal process can begin now that Donny Lee Greenhow is back in East Texas.
What neighbors think about the news now that the man accused of killing a Ben Wheeler couple is back in the county and behind bars.
Donny Lee Greenhow was silent as he was escorted into the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office Thursday.
"Thank God nobody got hurt and he is here," says Sheriff Pat Burnett.
A sigh of relief for Sheriff Burnett as Greenhow walked, restrained at his hands and feet and without shoes, inside the jail.
"It was right down the road," says Audrey Wood, a neighbor.
That same relief felt by Wood who lives near-by the home of Peter and Latricia Shick, where a family member found the couple murdered.
"I feel like I can come home and not be super crazy abut locking my doors and peeking out the windows," says Wood.
A crime the sheriff says Greenhow committed then ran to Tennessee, where he led police on a manhunt, finally being captured Friday.
"We are relieved," says Ben Worsham, the son-in-law of the victims.
The Shick family told CBS 19 last week the capture was welcome news.
"We had a huge burden off our chest. There were a lot of high fives, and just a lot of crying and a lot of emotions," says Worsham.
It's been nearly two weeks since Peter and Latricia Shick were found dead inside their home. Sheriff Burnett says it took countless hours of work and dozens of agencies working together to get Greenhow back to Van Zandt County.
"We had indications he was going to that area, so they were informed, took it seriously and were ready," says Sheriff Burnett.
Deputies picked up Greenhow Thursday morning after he was arraigned in Tennessee and extradited back to Texas, neighbors thoughts are still with the Shick family.
"They probably have a lot of closure with him behind bars," says Wood.
The sheriff has not released information about a motive for the murders.
Greenhow also faces aggravated robbery charges in Tennessee.
Greenhow will be arraigned tomorrow at that time his bond will be set.
