Web Exclusive: Apps to help college students stay organized

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - From buying textbooks to decking out a dorm room, there are plenty of apps to keep campus life organized.  The tools can help first-time freshmen and even grad students.

Course loads, papers, research and after-class activities can add up to a busy day.  An app like "In Class" for iPhone and iPad can help keep track of your day.  Students can take notes, share notes, line up their schedule and set alarms for important deadlines.

Textbooks can take a huge bite out of a college student's budget.  The "Bookbyte" app for Apple and Android aims to take a bite out of some of those costs.  Students can buy, rent and sell used textbooks on the go, and scan books to find out how much they're worth.

The Amazon student app for iPhone lets users do many of the same things, and get Amazon gift cards for books they trade in.  "CourseSmart's" apps let users view any of the thousands of e-textbooks purchased through their website on a mobile device, including iPhone, iPad, Android and Kindle Fire and add their own notes as they read.

And to give a dorm room the comforts of back home, the "Design Your Dorm" web app has floor plans for dorms at dozens of colleges and universities.

Before they get to campus, students can drag and drop items from an online store and fit them in those floor plans, compare shopping lists with roommates or divide purchases.  Students can also order items to have items shipped directly to the dorm.
