JACKSON/SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - A boil water notice has been issued for Jackson Water Supply customers living south of Texas 31 East and north of CR 223 in Smith County.
At about 7 this morning, the agency began field calls on outages and low water pressure in several areas, including county roads 21, 26, 2301, 233, 3197, 2265, 2264, 2305, 235 and 2222, as well as Texas 31 and FM 850. By this afternoon, agency officials discovered a water main break about one-half mile south of Texas 31.
Due to the conditions there, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the system to notify customers to boil their water prior to consumption.
"To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes," a notice from Jackson Water Supply Corp. stated.
Jackson Water Supply serves about 4,350 residents and 1,450 active accounts in the Chapel Hill and Arp areas, providing groundwater from five deep wells pumping water from the Carrizo/Wilcox aquifer.
