The Henderson Lions fell one game short of returning to state last season with a loss against Alvarado in the semifinals. The previous year, in 2010, the Lions won the school's first ever state title -- both years, quarterback Del Barnes led the team.

Barnes graduated in the spring. He plays for Cornell now, leaving three signal callers to battle for the starting job; senior Jansen Moore, junior Connor Dodson and sophomore Zane Boles.
