CORPUS CHRISTI (kristv.com) - An east Texas
woman wrongfully arrested back in April for charges that
included felony theft in Nueces County have been dropped.
As kristv.com first reported last week, Lori Lea Nelson, of Mineola, has been trying to get the charges removed from her record ever since her April arrest.
Friday, kristv.com obtained documentation that shows the case against Lori Lea
Nelson in Nueces County has been dismissed. It's been over three months
since she was first arrested and Friday, she finally learned the good
news.
Nelson's identity was being confused with a "Lori Ann Nelson" who was wanted for several charges including a felony theft.
After 6 News's investigation into the story, the Nueces County District Attorney's
Office found that the Lori Nelson responsible for these crimes is dead
and has dismissed the case against the innocent Lori Lea Nelson.
The D.A. began investigating last week after Nelson contacted 6 News
and told us she couldn't get anyone in the court system to call her
back. We spoke with Nelson today, who says she's just so happy this
burden has been lifted after several long months.
"I sent a mass text to all of my kids and to my husband and I said, 'Case dismissed,' and it was just one big 'Yay!' from everybody. I mean
everybody can relax now and we can all get back to our normal life,"
Nelson says.
Nelson was also being held out of nursing school because of the
charges on her record. She says that situation has been cleared up and
she should be starting classes soon. As for the D.A's office, 6 News tried
to contact them, but it have not heard back from prosecutors.
