PALESTINE (KYTX) - A Palestine man is in the hospital, possibly facing surgery after he was shot in the face.
Palestine police say a man attempted to rob a gas station and shot that clerk with a rifle early this morning.
That man then ran away before police could catch him.
Now they're are hoping you can help identify the suspect.
Take a good look at this man as he bursts into Mr. D's Convenience Store on Oak Street in Palestine wearing camouflage and carrying a 22 caliber rifle.
"We don't even know why he decided to fire the weapon. At the time the clerk was shot, he was not even behind the counter. He wasn't in a position to give any money, but the suspect did demand money," says Sgt. James Muniz with Palestine Police.
Sgt. Muniz says you can see the clerk, 62-year-old Fred Robinson, fall to the ground in surveillance video after he's shot around 2:30 Sunday morning.
The cameras inside and outside of the store captured the shooting and gives investigators some information since the suspect ran away and wasn't caught.
"Does let us have a pretty decent look at the vehicle. At this point have not been able to make out a license plate for the vehicle," says Sgt. Muniz.
Police believe the suspect was dropped off at Mr. D's around 2:30 and say you can see him squat down behind the building for about 3-4 minutes before going inside and confronting the clerk.
All strange details in a shooting that left Robinson in the hospital from a gunshot wound to the jaw.
"Doing fine, talked to his family and they say he's going to be ok," says Sgt. Muniz.
And investigators asking you to take a good look at this man.
"We would hope they would do everything in they can to try to help the police department with these types of incidents so nobody else can be hurt," says Sgt. Muniz.
Palestine police describe the suspect as a black man, about 6 feet tall, wearing a camouflage shirt, pants and hat that blocks his face in the video.
