TYLER (KYTX) - As part of Keep Tyler Beautiful's mission to encourage the ongoing beautification of Tyler, the board has selected American State Bank's South Tyler Branch to be awarded the Beauty and Business Award.

Board members select businesses that show pride in the community through the efforts of business owners to be a good community neighbor.

The Board will present the "Beauty and Business Award" at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21 at American State Bank, 5202 Old Jacksonville Hwy.

Every Beauty and Business Award winner receives a framed certificate and personalized yard sign presented by members of the Keep Tyler Beautiful Board.  Representatives of American State Bank who are expected to attend include President Kelly Sanders, Chairman of the Board Brandon Steele and Senior Vice President and Branch Manager Tom. W. Stewart.

Stewart said that in 2009, the planning and construction of the Old Jacksonville Highway branch was a united, determined goal of bank management to create a different and unique bank with a distinctive look.  Management wanted to create a warm, inviting, home-like atmosphere and not just another "bank in a box."

"This same desire was carried forward in the landscaping and ongoing maintenance," Stewart said. "We are very pleased with our ultimate look.  We are, likewise, pleased, honored and humbled that the City of Tyler has noticed our efforts. Thank you City of Tyler and Keep Tyler Beautiful."

Stewart said that Crew Cut Landscaping and Tommy Hyde have done an outstanding job and are also to be commended for a job well done.

"We selected American State Bank's South Tyler location because of its appealing design, appropriate landscaping and grounds that are kept in good condition," Keep Tyler Beautiful Board Chair Phyllis Carlyle said.  "Despite being on a busy major thoroughfare, there is little to no litter, the bank maintains the building well and their dumpsters and trash area are clean and neat."

Businesses are chosen for meeting the following criteria:

  • Campus or grounds are inviting through the use and upkeep of greenery, such as grass, trees, shrubs and/or flowers along with benches, trash cans and/or chairs;
  • Parking area is litter free;
  • Business has attractive signs;
  • Dumpster and trash areas are clean and tidy;
  • Old, unused bulky items are not stored around or behind the store (i.e. equipment, furniture, supplies); and,
  • Building front is in good shape with clean paint or bricks.

Previous recipients of this award include:
