We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

TYLER (KYTX) - The month of October ushers in the beauty and the recognition of the vital role art and culture plays throughout our nation. Locally, the Arts and Humanities Council of East Texas (AHCET) presents its third Multi-Cultural Arts Fest on the downtown square in Tyler.

The festivities are slated for Saturday, October 6th and get underway at 11 am.

"Everyday we celebrate the arts, but we're excited to once again make a contribution to the flourishing art scene in downtown Tyler. It's such a beautiful sight to see cultures engaging and sharing their creative spirits. As in previous years, there's great expectation to see the colorful costumes and activities that include African drumming, flamenco guitar and various other musical interpretations, multi-cultural dance performances, and the beauty of visual art," says AHCET Executive Director, Debbie Kirkland Waffer.

The arts help fuel our economy, as well as, our souls. The coast to coast recognition is designed to encourage and remind us of the important role the arts and humanities play in our daily lives. And, when young people are involved in the arts, it's very rewarding to see the positive change in their lives.

The mission of AHCET, a volunteer non-profit organization, is to educate and enrich the lives of disadvantaged youth through the arts with after school/out of school programs. We believe that through engagement with the arts, young people will grow and develop their capabilities and make positive contributions to the world around them.

It takes a village to raise happy, healthy and hopeful children. Therefore, tax deductible donations are welcomed. Please mail donations addressed to: Arts & Humanities Council of East Texas, 4828 S. Broadway, Ste. 248, Tyler, Tx, 75703 or log on to www. artscouncilet.org.
