Smith County fugitive jailed in Longview on Thursday

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A Smith County fugitive is in the Gregg County Jail today, after authorities took him into custody on West Marshall Avenue at Tyler Street on Wednesday.

Eugene Thomas Stevens III, 20, of Gladewater, faces a felony bond forfeiture charge in Smith County, after he failed to show up for his jury trial April 25 on a 2011 charge of failing to identify a fugitive by giving false information.

Stevens remains jailed on $5,000 bond. Gregg County Sheriff's officer Jennifer Ann Cooley took Stevens into custody at 4:23 p.m. Wednesday, according to jail records.
