COLLEGE STATION/BRAZOS COUNTY (KYTX) - Texarkana, Tyler and Longview ranked among the state's 10 ten best, and outpaced the state, in job growth in July.
At 7 percent job growth from July 2011 to July 2012, Texarkana led all other Texas metro areas in the list, compiled by the Texas A&M University Real Estate Center.
At 3.3 percent job growth, Tyler rated fifth in Texas behind Odessa (6.8 percent), Corpus Christi (4.3 percent) and Midland (3.8 percent). Rounding out the top 10 were Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown (3.2 percent), Sherman-Denison (3.0 percent) and three-way tie for eighth between Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, Longview and Laredo, all at 2.9 percent.
The state overall marked 2.2 percent growth in employment, the report stated.
"All Texas industries except the information industry had more jobs in July 2012 than in July 2011, but the state's government sector continues to lose jobs. The mining and logging industry ranked first in job creation, followed by the construction industry, the leisure and hospitality industry, and the professional and business services industry," the report stated.
"All Texas metro areas except Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, Wichita Falls, Beaumont-Port Arthur, Abilene, and Brownsville-Harlingen had more jobs in July 2012 than in July 2011," stated the report, which relied on Texas Workforce Commission data.
