TISD approves $127.8 million budget with state funding cuts

Posted: Updated:

TYLER/SMITH COUNTY (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - For the second straight year, Tyler ISD teachers won't see raises, and for the third year in a row. Other staff members won't either.

This comes as the school board approved the district's $127.8 million budget tonight.

The budget maintains the tax rate that was in place this past year, but the budget does reflect continued cuts in state funding to the district.

Extra revenue this year helped with that some, so it was not nearly as bad as last year's almost $7 million cut in state funding. Well, we're told that overall the cuts were made mainly to central office departments.

However some additional cuts included 12 high school teaching positions, athletics and fine arts and elementary field trips.
