Canton Police Department:
CANTON (KYTX) - On 08/22/2012, The Canton Police Dept Narcotics Unit and SWAT Tream along with the Van Zandt County Districts Attorneys Office executed a narcotics search and arrest warrant at the address of 1504 VZCR 2144 in Wills Point, TX.
The address is located approximately 4 miles outside the City of Canton near IH 20 just west of the City of Canton. This investigation was approximately one month long and resulted in the arrest of both suspects who lived at the residence.
The male suspect is Michael Jack Callaway Jr. DOB 06/22/1976 and the female is Misty Michelle Rice DOB 02/05/1980 both of Canton,TX. These two individuals were being investigated for large amounts of methamphetamine distribution as well as firearms trafficking.
Callaway is a known felon who fired at officers upon their arrival at the residence with a large caliber pistol through a bedroom window with outside officers returning fire. These outside Officers were Callaways targets.
No Officers or Suspects were hit during the gunfire. During the gunfire a flash bang diversion device was deployed inside the bedroom where the suspect was firing from and he was overtaken by the interior SWAT Team who had forced their way into the front door of the residence. Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident.
During the search of the residence, Callaway the convicted felon, was found in possession of 9 high powered rifles, shotguns, and pistols along with an ample amount of ammunition. A large amount of cash and methamphetamine were also found inside the bedroom of the residence where the two suspects were found.
Callaway who at the time was out on bond for felony theft charges is being held at the Van Zandt County Justice Center on 3 count of Attempted Capitol Murder of a Peace Officer, 9 Counts of Possession of a Firearm by Felon and Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 over 4 Grams under 200 Grams with bonds totaling 1.6 million dollars. His female counterpart Misty Rice is being held on Manufacture / Delivery of a Controlled Substance Charge with a bond of 250,000 dollars.
This is being investigated by Canton PD Narcotics Inv. James M. Bradshaw along with the Van Zandt County District Attorneys Office and the ATF in Tyler, TX.
"Callaway who has been under investigation for quite sometime proved just what our intelligence had showed us throughout this investigation.. We knew going into this it was a high risk Search Warrant and we were prepared to take Callaway into custody one way or the other. He is a dangerous volatile career criminal and drug dealer who will be prosecuted to the fullest extent, and will be facing more felony drug and firearm charges in the near future"- Inv. James M.
