More West Nile cases confirmed in Smith, Gregg counties tonight

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - More human cases of West Nile are confirmed in Texas tonight, including East Texas' most populous counties.

Statewide 640 cases have been confirmed - and 23 people have died.

In East Texas, 44 people have confirmed cases, and there has been one death in Gregg County.

At 8:14 p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety reported that two more cases of human West Nile have been discovered in Smith and Gregg counties. There are now 15 cases in Gregg County, and eight cases in Smith County.

Elsewhere in East Texas, there are eight cases of West Nile in Angelina County, five cases in Van Zandt County, three cases in Rusk County, two cases for both Upshur and Harrison counties and one case each in Hopkins, Henderson, Cherokee, Trinity and Panola counties.
