Health Alert: Obese breast cancer patients at risk

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Breast cancer patients, who are obese or even just overweight, may have a higher risk of recurrence of the most common type of the disease. A new study in the Journal Cancer shows obesity is associated with about a 30-percent higher risk of cancer coming back and a nearly 50 percent higher risk of death -- even after treatment, such as chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. Researchers say the findings suggest extra body fat causes hormonal changes and inflammation, which could drive some cancers.

(CBS) - New evidence shows the health benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks for newborn boys, but the benefits are not enough for doctors to routinely recommend it for all boys. That's according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. The Academy says the decision should be made by parents and doctors. Research shows the health benefits of circumcision include lower risks of getting HIV, genital herpes, HPV and syphilis.

(CBS) - The American Academy of Pediatrics is also putting out new guidelines when it comes to children and sleep disorders. They're recommending all children who snore regularly get tested for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Sleep apnea can lead to behavior problems and developmental delays if left untreated.
