G.O.P Convention Moving Forward

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - The G.O.P Convention officially got underway Monday, but today will be the first day of activities.

Monday's session was an abbreviated 32 seconds because of concerns about Isaac.

Today, Mitt Romney will be officially nominated as the Republican candidate for President. And in a surprise twist, he will be in Tampa ahead of schedule so he can watch his wife's speech.

We also hear from Rick Santorum and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will deliver the keynote address.

(CBS) - The Republicans won't have the stage entirely to themselves. President Obama will be campaigning in Iowa and Colorado today.

This is a break from tradition for the president. There is usually a gentleman's agreement that the opposing candidate not campaign during the other candidate's convention.

However, the president has chosen to use this time to hit up some battleground states that could decide this year's election.

Aides do note that the president could change his travel plans if Tropical Storm Isaac causes widespread damage.
