TYLER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - The trial for a Tyler man accused of trying to kidnap a woman in the parking lot of a Tyler grocery store on Jan. 16 is expected to begin today.

William McKnight Easley, 34, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the third-degree felony, which has been enhanced from a state jail felony because of prior state jail felony convictions, defense attorney Brent Ratekin said.

Authorities found Easley at his home in Flint on Jan. 17 and arrested him in relation to the attempted kidnapping in the 6600 block of Old Jacksonville Highway on Jan. 16, according to a Tyler police statement.
The victim told authorities that about 4:40 p.m. Jan. 16, a man approached her door and told her that he had a gun and was forcing her back into her vehicle.

The victim, a 39-year-old woman, began screaming, and two other people also in the lot came running in her direction. The man apparently jumped into a blue 2000 Pontiac Grand AM matching the description of Easley's and fled the scene, police said.
