United Airlines computer problem causes delays

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (CNN) - Things are getting back to normal after a computer problem caused hundreds of flight delays for United Airlines passengers.

Tuesday's temporary outage lasted for about 2-and-a-half hours. At Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, a United hub, check-in kiosks were dark and passengers stood in long lines. At the gates, people boarded planes while United agents checked them off on a hand drawn seating chart.

United Airlines apologized for the disruption in a statement. The airline says affected travelers can cancel or rebook flights without penalty.
