MOUNT PLEASANT, TITUS COUNTY (KYTX) - The east Texas school bus accident is striking a chord with any parent who puts a child on a bus.
Even though the 28 students and the bus driver are home safe from the hospital, parents are still concerned.
April Love's 6-year-old daughter rides the bus to school everyday.
"Because I work nights, she's on the bus before I get home," says Love.
But Love says she's worried about Peyton's safety after the Mount Pleasant ISD bus crash.
She thinks there are too many distractions for bus drivers in general.
"They're not watching while on the bus," says Love.
"An accident is usually that, it's an unplanned event," says Stephen OShoney, the general manager for Durham School Services in Mt. Pleasant.
Durham leases and runs the buses for the district.
He says the video from inside the bus shows the driver, 50-year-old Donna Elliot, just couldn't stop in time coming over the hill on Ferguson to 16th Street, and slamming into the stopped semi truck stopped at a light.
"Her first question was, 'is anybody hurt? Does anyone have a cell phone?'" says OShoney.
OShoney says the driver was injured, she and three students were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
25 others went to the hospital to get checked out too.
59 students on board were headed to junior high and high school.
OShoney says Elliott's 14 years of experience kept everyone calm.
"But when it does happen we can be there to make sure kids are taken care of and that they're safe," says Mt. Pleasant ISD Superintendent Lynn Dehart.
Dehart says it's an unfortunate event, with a fortunate outcome.
"The fortunate part is none of our students were injured," says Dehart.
Still leaving Love questioning how she'll get her daughter to school.
"I can pick her up. I'll probably do that," says Love.
All injuries were minor.
Durham just took over services for the district this year.
The company is based out of Illinois.
Mount Pleasant Police are still investigating.
