Elderly Carthage man latest West Nile death in East Texas

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Panola County Judge David Anderson has told KYTX CBS 19 that the county's recent West Nile death was an elderly man who lived within the Carthage city limits. The man had been in a Shreveport hospital with the illness for at least the past three weeks until his death Wednesday.

Anderson said the city of Carthage has conducted spraying in certain neighborhoods for the past two weeks. He said aerial spraying throughout the county is not being considered at this time, because Panola County has not reached emergency status, and aerial spraying might not prove effective in the county, which is more than 800 square miles.

(KYTX) - The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed a person has died in Panola County with a confirmed case of West Nile Virus. The person's identity has not be released. This death comes about two weeks after a man in Gregg County dies from West Nile.
