BULLARD (KYTX) - It's a program schools across America offer to try to keep students from drinking and driving while celebrating their graduation night. But, one East Texas man is looking ahead to raise money for "Project Graduation" in his town, one haircut at a time.
"I like the idea of keeping the young kids off the streets while they're drinking, or drinking and driving, stuff like that... underage drinking."
Chris Suttle is the owner of Bullard Barbershop.
He's kicking off the new school year with a pledge to donate one dollar from every single haircut this school year to Bullard High School's "Project Graduation."
"It's not for myself or anything like that. It's just to let people know that we're here and that we're here to help- not only to give good service, but to also give back." says Suttle.
He says "Project Graduation" is a way to include all Bullard students and hopes to do it all year round, starting next Fall.
"It's something everyone can benefit from and everyone has a chance to graduate, so we figured 'Project Graduation' would be a great way to go." says Suttle.
"It's a good gesture on his part to give back to the school." says Bullard ISD parent Tracy Moore.
He brought his 13-year-old son, Spencer, in for a back-to-school haircut. He hopes the program keeps going.
"It'd be cool to have it for our graduation." says Spencer.
"It's going to help the economy around here." says Tracy. "And, that's what it's all about is shopping local if we can."
"It just feels good. It's not a reward or anything. It's just something I wanted to do to give back to the community." says Suttle.
Haircuts are $14 each. Suttle's goal is to begin donating about $500 a month. The donation program runs through the rest of the school year.
