NACOGDOCHES (KYTX) - Authorities have extradited a Shreveport woman back to Nacogdoches to face drug trafficking charges.

In February, Texas DPS troopers arrested Shawanna Nichole Hughes and her husband, Kareem U. Hughes, after finding 600 Soma, Xanax, Hydrocodone and other pills in their vehicle, which also contained their children. Child Protective Services were called to the scene and took custody of the children, after determining that the parents were high on pills.

Shawanna Hughes, 35, failed to show up in Nacogdoches County court this summer to face two counts of possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated with child passengers and possession of a dangerous drug. On Aug. 16, Caddo Parish authorities took her into custody, and she was brought back to the Nacogdoches County Jail on Thursday with new charges – felony release of surety, felony bail jumping and two more misdemeanor counts of bail jumping.

No bail was set.
