Smith County man convicted of drug trafficking

TYLER (KYTX) – A 32-year-old Tyler man has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.
 
Sipriano Relles Perez pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith K. Guthrie. 
 
According to information presented in court, on Feb. 20, Perez was found in possession of approximately 66.9 grams of actual methamphetamine, which he intended to deliver to others in and around the Eastern District of Texas.  A federal grand jury returned an indictment on Apr. 11, charging Perez with federal violations.
 
Perez faces up to 40 years in federal prison.  A sentencing date has not been set. He has been held in the Smith County Jail without bond since March 20.
 
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Tyler Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Baldwin.
