NACOGDOCHES (KYTX) - A woman's acts of courage and kindness, protecting Jews in Russia during the Holocaust are inspiring East Texans 70 years later.

The Israeli Consulate went to Nacogdoches to honor Dr. Elena Mamantova with the "Righteous Among the Nations" award. It's the highest honor a non-Jew can receive from the Israeli government.

Mamantova's daughter, 94-year-old Helen Dusher, accepted the award on her behalf.
